what is

THEE

THEE (The Hey Ensemble) is subversive theater and film. We develop original works that interrogate the trends of power, culture, wealth, and influence in America — as it is, was, and will be. For thee and for me

HOW we ROLL

THEE is utterly transparent in its funding, casting, hiring, collaboration, education, contract, and development practices.

THEE is pro-equality, pro-gender expression, pro-disability, and pro-complete collaboration.

THEE makes our offerings accessible and affordable for our viewers.

THEE is continually evolving in our values and will be held accountable by one another and the community for our f*ck ups

the BEGINNINGS

Founded in 2012, THEE was originally co-created by 5 actor-producers as a classically motivated company called Shrunken Shakespeare. At the time, we were named by Backstage as one of the 8 young (and mighty) theater companies in New York City. Today as THEE, we are a bicoastal theater and film group that moved away from the traditional hierarchy of not-for-profit arts and towards a collective-run model involving writers, actors, directors, and filmmakers. We strive for an equitable space in which to choose our own adventure, openly voice and approach conflict, and maybe break some shit. We center resistance and change — blend story with reality — thin the veil between subtlety and chaos.

BRING on the ACCESS

We strive to put the  needs and abilities or company members first. This may include preparing for caretaking, transportation, neurodivergent, food allergy, sleep, and physical needs (body, vision, hearing).

We do all in our power to be transparent in our capacity to assist our artists. This is the gold standard for everything we do.

Our accessibility committee is responsible for reaching out to community centers/activists to invite them to participate in our offer to receive low-cost / free tickets for members of the First Nations and underserved communities.

When possible, we will provide sign language interpretation for theater productions and ask if assistance is required for those hard of hearing, seeing, or moving.
